Existential Philosophy and Therapy are popular amongst practitioners from diverse therapeutic orientations, partly due to their broad theories on fundamental human concerns such as freedom, responsibility, meaning, relationships and death.

In this workshop you will find out about the philosophy (particularly the work of Heidegger in 'Being and Time', and Sartre) and how therapists have used the philosophy (particularly the work of Yalom, van Deurzen and Spinelli). The workshop will provide a range of learning experiences, including small experiential group work, presentations, and discussions.

John Pollard has a private counselling practice in Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. He completed a Diploma in Integrative Counselling in 1996 and is a graduate of the Philosophy department at Essex University (1993).

In 2002 he was invited by Emmy van Deurzen to teach a course at the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling and also write a chapter on 'authenticity' for 'Existential Perspectives on Human Issues: A Handbook for Therapeutic Practice' (Emmy Van Deurzen and Claire Arnold-Baker, 2005).

This study day is intended for people with a background in psychotherapy, counselling, health and social care.

Cost £50.00 per person (a simple buffet lunch is provided as well as hot and cold drinks)

There is some car parking at The Active Business Centre and extensive public parking nearby.
